EDGAR "EGAI" TALUSAN FERNANDEZ
took up Fine art studies in the 70s. Was a recipient of various awards such as: Thirteen Artists awardee of the Cultural Center of the Phippines in 1990, Patnubay sa Sining in Painting by the City of Manila, 2006 and others. Winner of several awards during his student day’s and a 3rd Prize in Sculpture in 1978 in the annual art competition of Art Association of the Philippines.Won a grant for 3 moth stay in Paris, France for winning a national painting competition. Stayed in Europe for 18 months, to tour all the museums
Had been invited to exhibit his works in several countries abroad: like the 0ne man show in the ASEAN Culture Center in Tokyo and Fukuoka Museum in Japan sponsored by the Japan Foundation; the 1st Asia Pacific Triennale in Queensland Museum in Australia in 1993 and in the special exhibition (out Now) in Singapore Art Museum in 2006 and others. Singapore Museum has his biggest oil painting in their collection, a 12 feet by 20 feet titled “Unfinished painting of the Present”
As cultural advocate, Fernandez conducts art workshops in various communities here and abroad in partnership with civil society.
Was a president of AAP in 1983 and founding member of Kaisahan and Abay (People’s Artists); and a former Head of the Committee on visual art of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) 2008-2010. Recently a consultant curator for NCCA.
